Evolve’s Mechanical Product Manager, Seth Greenlund, shares knowledge on new Mechanical features coming out in the latest 8.2 release.

What are the major Mechanical features coming out for 8.2?

The overarching theme for this release is user-driven improvements and enhanced user experience. Nearly every feature in version 8. 2 stemmed from customer interactions or market needs we observed. This release includes new quick tools and 3D modeling enhancements. Although Revit excels in many areas, designing directly in 3D views can be challenging.

Traditionally users had to cut in section views or elevation views, work within plan views, and then return to 3D views to get the bigger picture. To streamline this process, we've added several quick tools that enable users to remain within the 3D environment. Notable additions include:

  • Align Run Intersection

  • Insert and Connect Offset

  • Move Straight

  • Add Fitting

These tools, along with several others, were our primary focus for this release.

Additionally, we aimed to enhance the overall user experience. While we’ve always provided robust documentation, videos, user guides, and help resources, they were scattered across different platforms. To address this, we integrated over 90 in-app tutorial videos directly within our quick tools.

Now, when you launch a feature, you’ll see a familiar blue question mark icon for help—and next to it, a new filmstrip icon. Clicking the filmstrip icon opens a 3-to-5-minute walkthrough video demonstrating how to use that tool.

This feature is invaluable for users who need quick guidance or want to explore unfamiliar tools. Creating these videos was a major effort involving multiple teams, and we’re excited to bring this resource directly into the app.

Why are we implementing these features with Evolve?

As I mentioned, while Revit offers many top-tier features, it falls short in areas crucial to our users’ workflows. At Evolve, we identified key pain points that make users’ daily tasks more difficult. Our goal is to fill these gaps and simplify processes—addressing the tasks users struggle with every day.

What solution or impact will each of these have for Evolve users?

The new Evolve features simplify daily modeling tasks within the Revit environment. Specifically, they:

  • Accelerate modeling workflows: Users can detail and insert pipe, duct, or electrical conduit faster and with greater accuracy.

  • Surface valuable data: The tools expose important data that is often difficult to access, helping users gain insights and complete turnover processes more efficiently.

These enhancements empower users to accomplish more—both in modeling and data management—improving productivity on multiple fronts.

Is there any additional information you want users to know about these features we are adding to Evolve?

We want to emphasize that everything we do at Evolve is about making our customers’ lives easier. User input drives our priorities, and these tools are a direct response to customer feedback. Every feature in this release originated from user requests or clearly voiced needs.

What’s next in the pipeline for Mechanical content?

Looking ahead, content delivery is a major focus for us. Currently, users must wait for full releases to access new content. We are developing a Revit-based content delivery mechanism, which will enable more flexible and timely updates.

Additionally, we’re working on two major features:

  • Roles and Permissions: Providing better access control and user management.

  • Project Standards: Helping teams maintain consistency across projects.

These upcoming features are part of our continued commitment to enhancing the Evolve experience for our users.
